Cherie Carter, AGCHC Volunteer
Cherie (properly pronounced as if Maurice Chevalier was speaking it in French….ooh la la!) is based at the Admin office, just inside the door between the bay windows. From here she works quietly on the computer performing her many functions for Donna and Janet.
Cherie is usually a very quiet person, gets straight to her work and you may not hear a peep out of her all day. On the rare occasion when she gets chatty, you’ll find a lot about this southern belle with the delightful Texan accent that you wouldn’t even imagine!
Cherie was a barrel rider in the rodeo. Yep, she wore turquoise outfits, climbed up on that horse and rode around those barrels, winning buckles for her speed and technique.
For awhile, Cherie lived in Miami where she worked on a small newspaper, in the entertainment section. This led to some wild times in exciting parts of this fun-in-the sun beach city!
She also made her living as a poker player for a time. I wouldn’t bet against her, and she’s got a perfect poker face for bluffing!
Cherie is an excellent researcher, spending a lot of her free time on the computer updating websites she designed and created herself where she sells antique books and vintage items. She’s a FaceBook and Twitter pro, and keeps in touch with friends and family all over the world via the net.
Always in learning mode, Cherie just completed a Grants A-Z course at the University of Houston and finished with a 98 on her exam! She’ll be writing her first grant for us soon and exploring this avenue as work she can do when she retires to that nice plot of land she and her fella’ Jim have down on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Cherie comes to us from the National Able Senior Employment Program. We really enjoy having her around. She is dependable, reliable, and always pleasant.
If you want to know the REAL story behind the Yellow Rose of Texas song, ask Cherie… it’s nothing like you’d think!
